yes, I do have vonage Unlimited to Nepal, it cost you around $69.00 per month including taxes. and its not free to Nepal Mobile, its free for Landlines and CDMAs. Call quality is just Okay...... It can be really good sometimes or bad every once in a while....... I guess it depends on call traffic on Nepal telecom or other providers in nepal.
Yes, every once in a while i hear those annoying messages..... but i just try again and it gets connected.
Next good thing is you can use your cell phone to get access to Vonage unlimited calling. If you use iphone or android phone, they have a program called "vonage extension" that can access your contact lists on phone and dial the number or you can dial manually (no need to enter pins). Or if you simple phone you can get aceess no and set your own pin, means you dont have to be at home to use your free international call through vonage.
I got it about 5 months ago...... Before that i used to get $30.00 monthly plan from raza.com which was preety good and i realized i was recharging it every 15 days means i was spending $60.00 per month to get about 600 minutes.
After getting vonage i dropped my cell phone minutes to lower minutes per month saving some money there as well coz whenever i make a call from home i use vonage instead of my cell.
So far I am happy.
PS: they send device for free, no cost to install and there is no contract......... if you dont like it... you can disconnect anytime and you dont even have to return the device.
Need more help, let me know.

Vonage is the best bet if you are calling nepal.
The best thing is you can even take vonage equipments in nepal and get connected with the internet. (though illegal)
The catch is now you are calling US number located in nepal using us cell phone at even cheaper rate (14.99) , the only thing is you have to take fast internet.

And if you have brother/ sister in usa at diff location or european contry, the house member can connect for almost negligible amount, vice versa. And the house member can enjoy internet too.
I guess this helps.

Thanks guys. Well the 'problem' is, my family is here. So I don't really need to worry about calling Nepal myself. I just wanna make calling Nepal a hasslefree task for my mom. I mean, I wish to make sure that myself or my Dad didn't need to be home when she wanted to make a phone call.I use Viber,Skype and Facebook to keep in touch with my friends and relatives.

What exactly is vonage? Is it like a telephone set or is it similar to magicjack? I took magicjack to Nepal when I was there almost 2 years ago and man, it was annoying as hell.

Just looked it up... Now you don't need to feel bad.

Anyway, I might actually give it a shot. I do have a bundle (cable, Phone, Internet) for the time being..I might as well cancel it and see how it goes.

Thanks for your lengthy post.

Last year I purchased Magic Jack and did set up here and got the US number and then took it to Nepal. For the first year it is $39.99 for full year that includes Magic Jack and after that you have to renew it every year which will cost about $20. Only thing is you have to have computer and the internet connection in Nepal. Only other problem might be the load shedding but in my case my family has no prblem about this as they have inverter. It does not use much electricity also. Before buying Magic Jack I used to spend lots of money on calling card but now I used that money to have inverter in Nepal. The good thing is they have light during load shedding also and we can talk free of charge.

Guys
If you have iphone or android in both sides then download an app called viber. It is a VOIP app that is not much hassle. All u need is wifi or 3g connection on ur smartphone
