As ridiculous as it sounds, I am puzzled of how segregated we Nepalese are. There are Newar meetings, Thakali meetings, Thakuri meetings, Rai meetings, sherpa meetings etc etc (All divided by caste) and same goes with NJ. To be segregated and have the upper cast/lower cast thing in our blood. No matter how educated we are, 95% of us have that in our blood and there is no denying that.
Verbally a lot of them take the high road but when it really comes down....you are there in one of those meetings and I just think it is wrong. To show up is to encourage meetings like that...we already see whats happening in Nepal at least dont do it here for crying out loud!!

No question about what you say. I myself is belong to a Rai caste but I don't beleive in Caste system. When you mentioned NY and NJ, same thing in Boston and else. Boston, where a huge number of Nepalese reside than any other states, I get invitation from Rai meetings every year and I never want to attend it. They're mad at me and no longer contact me. I beleive there are only two caste man and woman that was created by God. Then no caste is created in the kingdom of God. As you said, no matter how educated they are they always tend to carry-on their caste bull-head. For example, Dr. Navin Rai (is the World Bank Indigenous Peoples Adviser) is the adviser to a "Kirat Yakthum Chumlung" chapter in USA (in 2003, participated in the Rai meetings in DC). Isn't this an encourage to those organizer and caste-believers? Please, I am not criticising Dr. Navin.

So now we know, why Nepal is in the state its in. Some people in the Govt might have instigated it but it is us who have made it happen. All the segregation and hatred has and always be with us and has travelled with us. I often see bar fights when a newar will get beaten by a sherpa, sherpa by a thakali, thakali by a thakuri and the drama keeps going on and btw Indian families who been in Nepal for longer than 5 generations are still called dhotis even though they love Nepal more or equal to anyone of us..... Now the question is can we live as one? In my personal opinion we secretly hate each other too much to live as one!!
