Lot of Nepali students have been crowded in liberal arts college..most of them have desire to pursue their studies in science related field, lets say engineering,neuroscience  or sth like that...but the liberal arts colleges don't have those..so they are stucked with the typical science course viz. biology and chemistry..they can't leave the college as they are gettin pretty good scholarships and fear they won't get anywhere else.Since the liberal arts colleges donot have any kind of research,co-op programs, graduates from these colleges don't have any other option goin to grad school(thats wat i think,may not be true).Possibility of being hired by somebody after the graduation is least as the students don't have any kind of experience..neither research nor intern...the only thing they got is transcript on their hand.So lets discuss what might be a best option for a liberal arts science graduate? I am also among one of those Nepali students and know many like me.....it seems that we need to do the same crap again after we graduate....take GRE,go to professors for recommendation,spent hours on college search,mail the materials to the colleges......

    So,take a minute and speak sth(nth foolish please)......its worth to discuss and will assist lot of guys like u,me,him,her.......

I know a bunch of liberal arts schools which have engineering program and which are pretty good. They have been sending most of their students to good graduate schools with plenty of lab experience in their belt. It all depends on what school you go to.
On the other hand, I don't think Bachelors in engineering or something like that will really make it easy to get  a job in that field. You need much more (probably ME) than that to stand a good chance. At the same time, there are plenty of job opportunities related to chemistry n bio majors...just consult your career services job database.

We can just count the liberal arts colleges that have engineering progam....and

if they have also,u will be preferred least in comparison to big university graduate

coz u r gonna have least credit towards ur major(liberal arts students have to take a

lot of shit core)and less experinece...........N dude lets not talk about who goes

to Grinnell,Bates, Bowdoin,Williams....about the good enough schools where most Nepali

go?

Regardless of which college you go to, you can always explore opportunities to get as much exposure and work experience in your area through research projects/internships. During your undergraduate degree try to find a professor, who's research interests you and who'd be willing to mentor you to do a research. You can start by volunteering few hours at the professor's lab and then taking a full-fledged research project. It doesn't have to be something groundbreaking but just the fact that you did independently and took part in a research acitivity will count a lot. You could do this over regular semester or over the summer break. Usually it is much better if you do it over the summer because then you have more free time and sanity to devote to your research. If you're planning to do it over academic semester then try to take less course load. Most schools encourage undergraduate research and will give you a minimal stipend and may even provide you housing for your effort. It'll be even better if you can get something published.

Another option is looking for internships/co-ops at companies. If your school has a co-op program then you can get some info about companies that offer internships. Some departments also get info from local companies willing to hire students. If your school is not very resourceful then do some research over the internet and look for companies that have internship programs. Lot of Govt. funded labs cannot hire foreign students but there are lot of private companies that take in foreign students. Try applying for those internships. Lot of those internships are paid. It's best to do that over the summer as most companies want full-time interns. If you're doing it during your regular semester then you're limited to working only 20 hrs per week if you get a CPT. Otherwise you could use up your OPT before graduation. All these things should improve your chances of landing a job after graduation even though you're a liberal arts college graduate.

The job functions in the greatest demand by U.S. and international employers were engineering (18.8%) and accounting (12.0%). These two job functions also offered the highest median salary, paying between $46,000 and $50,000 annually for accounting and $51,000 and $55,000 annually for engineering.

When searching for employment opportunities, new grads found university career centers to be the most effective resource, along with online resources such as Experience.com (33.6%), applying directly to the company (23.8%), and face-to-face networking (16.8%).

53% of respondents held one or more internships prior to getting their full-time job
36% of jobs were filled in the Northeast; 27% in the Midwest
18% of respondents received stock options in 2007
Overall median starting salary was $41,000-$45,000

Hey can anybody say which engineering field is best tp go for between chemical, industrial and mechanical engineering?

Jeewan, I think it depends..If u wanna finally go to Nepal, mechanical would be good..otherwise chemical engineering is now being a hot topic......can go for it!
