What a team, what great players, what morality and what strong minds! Damn Aussies. Arguably THE MOST COMPETENT PROFESSIONAL SPORTS TEAM OF ALL TIME , not just cricket mind you! Damn. Yesto ni garne ho?
They murdered and butchered Pakistan and India in WC '99 and '03. They've just thrashed SL. They hammered other teams including the South Africans! I was hoping something better or more of a fightback from SA in semis and SL in the finals but hats off to the mighty aussies! What a phenomenal team!

Unbeaten in 29 World Cup matches now! They clearly outplayed every team that played in WC.

Agree. The competition was a complete disaster ( except for bidhan40 who might've enjoyed the final with his "english and irish" friends ). Real big financial loss, SHOCKING fan attendance, poor management. All in all, the way that the last 3 overs of this world cup were bowled summed everything up! Shame shame!

I don't know about that. The umpires were just doing their job.
The problem is in the rule books and who wrote them and when was it written?
If anything, the rules need to be revised and you can't revise the rules just because for a game. How hard is that to understand?

As I was listening to the commentary in the last overs, I thought "Man, these are some whiny SOBs." The commentators were simply whining too much which made my experience simply painful, If only they would shut up and let the game take care of itself.

The commentators clearly were disgruntled with ICC (maybe over poor match attendance) or maybe they didn't get the usual five-start treatment. Who knows? But I believe their comments were very unprofessional, trying to put the blame on ICC about everything that went wrong in the World Cup.

yes
ktm balley boy
the umpires did what they thought was best ..i dunno what the stupid commenatators or anyone else would do in such a sticky situation
it was a toss up between whether to play the next day or complete a match that was almost certain in bad light ..both the available options were quite embarrasing ..so we cannot blame anyone other than the books or the nature of cricket itself

Its certainly ICC's fault.

After the watch was shortened by two overs, for about 15 minutes, not even the captains and coach knew what their revised target was and Srilankans were just playing blindly, in case the rain stopped the match. Thats when they lost Jayawardane and lost the momentum. Else they would have gotten a little bit closer to the total.

Australians were announced winneres even before the game was completed. The umpries had to called for the three overs again, after the celebrations.

And the last 3 overs were played in complete dark. You cant simply do that in an official international match.

I mentioned the last 3 overs to highlight the conditions in which the overs were bowled. Who's talking or questioning the umpires decision in here? Surely in spite of the match situation at that moment, the match shouldn't have continued under those conditions! That summed it all up!

It was clear from the previous matches that there was no real competent for Australia in this world cup. Srilanka was a great team compared to the other participating teams. Still, it was too dwarf in front of Australia. In summary, that team won the cup who deserved it.

416. Learn to acknowledge and appreciate greatness! Don't be a d'bag. Glenn Mcgrath is arguably the best seamer of modern era. If SL would've won the toss and batted first ,it'd have been their night re huh. If Nepal would've qualified then they'd have won the WC. Je bhane ni bhayo ni.

How do you "measure" greatness?

No doubt,Mcgrath was one of the most successful seamer of his generation, but he wasn't a seam wizard. As a matter of fact,he was a "by-the -book" bowler, whose strength was line and length. He didn't swing much(seam bowler???) and he wasn't the fastest either.

I am sure you must have noticed,90% of the balls that came out of his fingers were pitched short of good length and was most of the time just outside the off stump.

Yes,he pitched on the seam, but the only advantage he took out of that was the bounce.

So,in my opinion Mcgrath was an ordinary bowler who achieved that towering height through his hard work and DISCIPLINE,backed by some of the greatest fielder in the planet.

He was an awesome bowler, but NOT a great seamer.Younis and Akram are the greats.

And the "toss" not playing the vital role, coming from someone like you who seem to understand the game?

Nonetheless,Australia played like the world champion and were the deserving winner.

Goodness me!!! Devil's Advocate? You sure that you're talking about Glenn Donald Mcgrath, the Legend and ARGUABLY the best seamer of this era?! Agree that I chose a wrong word abt him, wanted to use "pacer" in stead of a seamer but that doesn't entitle my original opinion to be blown out of the proportion. You must be one among less than 1% of all the knowledgable cricket fans all over the globe that doesn't consider this lad to be a great bowler. I find it absolutely disgraceful and shocking that you think that he was an ordinary bowler. As a matter of fact, you contradict yourself by saying that he achieved towering height through his hard work and discipline ( mostly his consistency with length ). If there's ONE thing that Mcgrath has that any other paceman who doesn't have is the consistency that can only be matched by the lethal pacers of yesteryears with the likes of Dennis Lillee and Curtly Ambrose to name a few. I'd probably rate Shaun Pollock as good as him but his dramatic drop in the speed of deliveries compared to Mcgraths 82 MPH/132-135 KMH is what makes Mcgrath better. Furthermore, like you said, more than 90 % of his deliveries are slighty shorter of good length and outside the off stump. That's what made him lethal and a GREAT bowler. Nobody else can brag about it. It's the consistency factor that makes him such a prominent and key figure who spearheaded the Aussie attack for a number of years.
Sachin ( Batsman ) , Steve Waugh ( Captain ) , Warney ( Spinner ) , Rhodes ( fielder )and Him as a bowler are always going to be talked about for a long long time because of nothing except consistency. While we can discuss about Tendulkar and co in other threads I want you to go through his record, 563 Test Wickets at an Average of 21.64 with the strike rate of 51.95 ( 50 is considered to be out of this world strike rate ) and 381 wickets in ODI's with an average of 22.02 with an econ of 3.88!!! Compare that with any of the "great" bowlers in your catagory or any bowlers and find out for yourself what defines greatness!
PS I consider myself a knowledgable fan just like yourself and tons of others but when someone makes such ridiculous remarks about such "GREAT" players, it just drives me nuts and makes me go f***ing mental! As far as the toss is concerned, for many toss might've been vital but on my view, it could have MAYBE given Sri Lanka some hope but I wouldn;t rule out the chances of Lankans being bundled out for 150 against this kind of uncanny Aussie bowling attack! There was NO WAY that australia was going to lose. Also, I'm a die hard indian fan and prior to the WC, I had said that if there was one team that could challenge Australia, then it'd be India purely because of their batting. There were many who thought that South Africa / New Zealand / Pakistan and Sri Lanka could topple Aussies but Indians' records against Australia is truly admirable. They mightnot have won that many matches but ask an AUSSIE who they fear the most, they'll always say India who could come closer. Lets not get fooled by these ridiculous rankings.

Cotd...
I'd want to avoid some confusion in here though! By saying that India is the only side who could topple the mighty aussies, I'm not implying that they're the second best team in the World. I'm just focussing on India's strength i.e. batting that could've posed some threat. If South Africa were in Australia's position ( dominance in Cricket world ) then there's no way that I'd have said that India was the only team who could pose a threat to SA as India always performs crappy against them. South Africa truly disappointed me though. What a joke did they make out of themselves. First they got scored heavily in their first encounter ( Australia scored over 380 ) then the aussies beat the shit out of them by bundling them for 149. In fact, they looked all set to be packed out for less than 100. Wonder who's gonna and more importantly when are Aussies going to be stopped. They didn't have their premier bowler for the WC but did ANYONE even notice that Brett Lee didnt feature in the WC? Such is the strength and depth in their squad. Damn!
