LOOKS LIKE WE HAVE NO HOPE IN NEPAL ANYMORE. KING- TOOK THE POWER AND STARTED MISUSING ARMIES IN SOME MANNER. VERY DICTATORSHIP ACTS EVEN IN THIS 21st CENTURY. MAOISTS-WE ARE SEEING THEIR STUPIDITY ANYWHERE IN NEPAL. MISUSE OF THE POWER AND WEAPONS. ANTI-DEMOCRACY ACT BY THEM ALREADY HAS PROVEN TO ME THAT WE HAVE NO HOPE FROM MAOISTS SIDE EITHER. THEY CALL THEMSELF ANTI-MONARCHY BUT THEY ARE NO BETTER THAN THE MONARCHY SYSTEM THEMSELF. OTHER PARTIES- JUST FEEL LIKE LAUGHING AT THOSE FOOLS ..CANT DO NOTHING BUT COMPLAIN AND DIRTY POLITICS ..BIRENDRA WAS A GREAT KING ..VERY DEMOCRATIC AND WE DIDNT EVEN HAVE THAT BIG MAOISTS PROBLEM BACK THEN ..WHY WERE THEY NOT ABLE TO DO ANYTHING AT ALL TILL NOW ??????? I WANT TO CALL MYSELF A DESHWADI WHO LOVES NEPAL ..NOT SUPPORTING ANY POLITICAL PARTIES OR ANY POLITICAL SYSTEM THATS PRESENT IN NEPAL. WHAT YOU GUYS HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THIS ???????

Suspending fundamental human rights cutting down phone lines for months Forcefully making people including children to come and wait for hours sometimes in extreme weather conditions to listen to his stupid speeches. putting his pictures in major places in ktm and other cities, and in school books. Full control of the media - Government TV and newspapers used to have news about king attending some marriage ceremony at the time when dozens of soldiers were dying in some clash. paralyzing traffic of Kathmandu everytime he needs to go somewhere. Massive misuse of public property. These are just the few things that make this king a dictator. there are lots more I cant remember now.

Saroj13, do you prefer lawlessness, gunda gardi, extortion, beating up citizens, kidnapping... to what the King did? Fine, he took advantage of his power, but he was not mobilizing his army to create a state of anarchy, he was not involved in daylight robbery, extortion, murders and kidnappings. I am sure abuse of power comes with the position, but compared to the maoists, the King's rule was better. Individual freedoms come from a basic sense of security, which is not provided in the Maoists dictates.

Most of the time it makes me wonder if our country Nepal is really ready for Democracy. People should have the ability of analyzing social and political issues, and even speak out their convictions. From where i stand, i am observing that whenever someone affiliated from a party shouts any slogans, i mean any slogans you can think of; people will start chanting that slogan without even first taking some moment to think about why they should support this and how will it effect them in a long run. The point i am making here is that people are just blowing themselves where the wind of political parties, Maoist, and king is blowing. Democracy in Nepalese terms currently is following parties and chant what is directed from them. People should really speak thier mind with any biasness which is really rare currently maybe coz of the pressure or they don't know where they stand as a people

hey saroj, I do not support the lawlessness and beating up of citizens by the maoists. Neither do I support maoist as a party. I support democracy against dicatatorship. Under kings dictatorship if some royalists beat up someone you would have never even have known abt it. Any newspaper which published such news would have been forcefully shut down. Those who were beaten up would not be able to organise meetings and call for protests like they are doing today. They could have been jailed for just condemning this act saying that they spoke against the king. Individual freedom can only be possible under democracy not a dictatorship.

Saroj13, I'm not supporting the king here. Politics for common citizens is about choosing the least worse of the political parties. Maoists are forcefully doing more things than the King ever did in his year long rule. So either you must be a maoist supporter or just not seeing things correctly.

But I have heard guns pointed at the locals and childrens to forcefully join the maoist army or die....now I havent seen the king forcing anyone to join the army or the police..............I thought America was a free country.......no nononoo..this is the most law abiding country. look at nepal you can get away with murder....a democracy gone bad.......you pretty much do anything in nepal...........and not get in trouble......is that a sign of dictatorship????????from the king?????///// Paras was one bad guy abusing power....Now look at the Maoist cadres thousands even worse than Paras walk freely abusing authority, extorting, looting and creating hell...........so blame the king for this............................Now if the king who had total army and police controll of Nepal had not stepped down .......declared Marshall law and killed that he opposed him made us LIKE NORTH KOREA..than i would agree that he is a dictator..........but to avoid more nepalese bloodshed...he stepped down for Nepals sake...........would a dictator in controll of armed forces stepdown without a fight .............>???????

Look back at around 200 years in the history of the western world. King was guillotined or burnt. The monarchy was gone and there were parties. People never believed in anything because all seemed bad. We have to realize that it is a time taking process. Absolute Monarchy has quite a lot of negative effects. But let us say that even though Gyanendra was a bad King some of you found his rule good for the people. But what next? What about the situation after Gyanendra dies? Are you going to trust Paras or are you in favor of making king his son who will probably be at most 15 or 20 when Gyanendra dies? This will create even more chaos. Even if Gyanendra were to take over, it wouldn't solve anything. There will be a big civil war. There will be a lot of political parties dying, a lot of maoists dying and a lot of "monarchists" dying. After all, they are all fellow Nepali people. If Maoists were to take over, Nepal would be in complete chaos with their wierd laws and 18th century justice style. If Parties were to take over completely, they would just make Nepal even poorer. So it is important to realize that though it might take a lot of time, the way to go forward is to combine these powers. I mean if the majority of Nepal wants a Republic then you could throw away the King. But there should be a combination. Maoists are dumb fools. But why are the so strong? They are so strong because poor people stopped believing in the pseudo-democracy of the parties. So Maoists were able to brainwash these poor innocent people. Therefore, what is happening in Nepal is happening for the best. I know it is sad to know that a businessman is getting beaten up, maoists carry gun with them and stuff. But Maoists know that if they don't have a gun, people will beat them to death. So, changes occur fast but for the change to settle down it takes some time. Nepal is in a phase of change and it will take some time for stability. Japan didn't rise as a superpower next day after Little Boy and Fat man were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.(I am not trying to say that Nepal will be like Japan). It will take some time. Give it time. Stop saying that we should kill the King or we should have absolute Monarchy. Be patient.... And stop calling each other stupid because they don't agree with your views. The fact that you guys are educated and yet resort to humiliating yourself by not seeing a point in each other's views is sad. I am not trying to preach here but why can't we all be polite and read each other's view and state our opinion if we have a different opinion.

so gundrukbhat thinks paitence is virtue??????????????...........dude wake up........look around ........do you see any hope????...............so you want peace in nepal??? so does everyone..............so whats the big deal.???............Lets all join hands and sing a peace song ,,,,let bygones be bygones............Let us all treat eachother like family.......................YEAH RIGHT IN THE FANTASY LAND WHERE WISHES WERE LIKE HORSES AND WE ALL RIDE THEM WHENEVER............you still have hope for these same political thugs who are in a power struggle to bring peace and stability??? do you believe that Prachanda who still abuses his authority and bullies everyone in Nepal and threatens of bloodshed if things wont turnout his way to bring Democracy........how is this possible????????????.......a commie maoist follower terrorist preaching democracy in a Nepal by making it a REPUBLIC like NORTH KOREA..........GET A GRIP IN REALITY and then write..............................everything in nepal right now feels like the PRE Gorkha era when King Prithivi narayan Shah united all the different Ethinic groups and named it Nepal........Things have changed now and people are more educated, we live our life more open than those pre Unity era.......we all keep up with the world around us . and things changed everyday and we with it. So dont give me a 200 years ago history of how things were handled then and compare it with todays Nepal............because now , the present that all it matters is ruined by none other than the Political SPA thugs and the terrorist Maoists..........................................TRU DAT

Our country has both 16th century monarchy and early 20 th century communists. First we should eliminate 16th century monarchy. Which we have already started to do. Then will come the turn of 20th century communists. Only after this we will be able to establish 21st century democracy and hope for a developed, prosperous Nepal. n I agree with gundrukbhaat, this will take some time.
