Hi ! I was in Dallas for ANA convention. I found it was the most expensive ANA convention ever. imagine 2 samosa for 5 dollar. and second day, the momo was 10 dollar for 8 pieces. All the events were not orgnaized syetematically. and it seemed like concert, cultural program and banquet was kind of sold out. my main point is ana must have collected good revenue in dallas. i think as a nepali, it is everybody's right to know the expenses and profit from dallas convention from ana. How does ANA spend the revenue? I was just throwing my opinion . sanjeeb

Momo was not $10.00, it was $5.00/plate and as long as I know, it was from MomoVendor, not from ANA. Cultural program: 1000 * $25 = $25,000 . Dinner : 400 * $25 = 10,000

Tmobile, correction please..the momo was $10 for 8 of em. I am not blaming ANA Orgenizers either..but it was too pricy and could have planned it better....no hard feelings please..just laying my oponion....Also why we register for $25 ??? if it was only for a lousy name tag. It didn't do any good just wearing it around the neck, Still had to pay to get in to the DJ party ($15) as well as cultural programme ($25) registeration fee alone was pretty hefty. I admit that i had good time just drinking and mingling around but it definetly was little pricy....

Tmobile, That is exactly where the organizer fell flat when they couldn't control the price of momo and samosa... $5 per plate momo becomes $10 overnight, and 2 pieces of samosa cost $5 and on the top of that, sauni goes -- "Don't use the large paper plates, we need that for Biryani", "save the sauce". ha... $5.75 for a bottle of heiniken, haa... are you kiddin' me? It was so funny the last day of the convention, eh, the stall that was sellin' liquor was pretty much empty, naah not with rakshi but people, and the guy from the stall came to sell us the coupon for discount price, haa... Nepali party and the rakshi stall is doing no business? haa, are you kiddin' me? Whoever came up with the idea of sellin' the same coupon for 3 days is just stupid, eh... that yellow coupon they used for heiniken, they sell the whole roll in the store for less than $10... ha. Should have bought a roll... NY, just don't use the same formula, eh, people might get smarter... :D

How does ANA spend the revenue? This has made me curious too. Maybe there's no revenue left, u know after paying off all those involved in organising the event or do they do that on a volunteer basis? Maybe the ANA committee will be so kind as to answer this qs.

KO and Tmobile, The momo was $5/plate until saturday evening around 9:00PM when the ANA volunteer (he was earing the volunteer tag) selling the momo decided to raise it to $10 after mixing water in momo aachar because supposedly they had to pay "overtime" to cook momo because the demand was higher than they had expected.

While I am for transparency all the way, I am not sure if it is right to demand an explanation re:expense right now! It's been, what, a week since the convention? Besides, we all will be better off doing some research before posting here because ANA's income and expenses have been posted in their website: http://www.anaonline.org/news/treasurers.php And I hear they update it every quarter, which I think is more timely than most organizations here in the U.S.

i just cruised through the reconcilliation available from the web. [ btw i am not an accountant or CPA but i could deduce following. MY EXPERIENCE IS BASED ON HANDLING PERSONAL BUSINESS ACCOUNT] I may have missed something pls. feel free to add on 1. it looks like they advance $10,000 to each of the convention 2. Each convention's income/expenses is handled by AN INDIVIDUAL [ or THE ADVANCED COMITTE .. cannot deduce] 3. Convention's INCOME/EXPENSE is not the responsibility of ANA [ looks like] 4. assigned INDIVIDUAL [of item 2] returns the ADVANCE [ i did not see this in phoenix ana .. may be i missed it.. for the denver it is there 10,000] 5. they include the so called income as PROCEEDS from the convention as a whole or ACCOUNT CLOSING for convention and Specify PROCEEDS. [ done for various accounting practices] my observation is they rather take a proceed in addition to advance [ inspite of including income and expense of the convention]. reason are various: a. accounting ease [ they need not save the receipts etc. because they are just mentioning proceeds... somebody else is giving them a balance i.e. profit so nobody cries foul esp. irs audit.. + other various reasons] b. if they include income and exp of the convention then they are liable for any misappropriations. [ deniability. ] c. advance is an INVESTMENT and PROCEED is the ROI. and ORIGINAL investment is RETURNED as advance back PAYMENT. [ matrix.. food for you. I think u r an expert in FINANCE and ACCOUNTING.. pls review] PS: pls. somebody with accounting expertise look at it and comment on my finding.

Thapap, ANA is just presenting their checkbook under the Treasurers report. I wonder whether they do a GAAP financial (looks like a call to Mahendraji). Other source will be Maryland attorney general's website (they might have form 990 posted)

Where it goes all Income, Profit and Revenues of ANA? Who are responsible and who are handeling all money of ANA? It must be transparent to all Nepalese communities around USA. Otherwise, ANA organizers are getting into big trouble form Federal Governmet of US.
