Hi:
I am currently working for a finance company and my salary is in the mid 50s. Last week I got an email from a Recruiter for a English and Nepali Linguist position to work as a contractor in Iraq. They are paying 150,000 dollars for one year. And he tells me that I can terminate the contract anytime. It will take me three years to make what I can make at this contracting job in one year. Then in one year I can come back to the US, pay off my debts and maybe even invest in a house. I have talked with few friends about this and they all tell me that this money is not worth going to Iraq. I am so torn. I need your advice. What do you suggest I should do?
ps. I am a Nepali female and I do qualify for the position.

Samsara: You are right not to expect anything from anybody. I do try to do that and at this time, I did do it with good intentions. Am not expecting any recognition or credit but was shocked with the etiquette part. I guess it is my naivette in this situation. I hope she gets this job if this is something she wants to do. And I would not want to know any details/progess about her coz if life is to take unpleasant turn for the person I referred to, I would not be able to live with myself. So I guess it is good after all that she did not reply. My two cents.
Samsara, thank you again for your insight.

Yeah you can tell all the lies you want about me talking badly about your father and mother, jerk. I did not do that. I guess it justifies you talking about my parents then, huh jerk. Get a life and take a English class so you can improve on your spelling and grammer. If you do that maybe you will get to the position where you will be making comfortable with a good salary and benefit from a professional position rather than doing a 14 hrs shift seven days a week and saving money by shacking up with 20 people in one room. And drink excessively when you get home and playing marriage or poker.
Get a life. And do not go into the trouble of replying to my threads. I don't need educated and enlightened opinions on my illiterate and uneducated threads. Have a great day.

I can if I want to but I made an educated choice that money is not important for me at this point in my life considering the potential danger involved. I qualify for this postion for your information. Maybe you should apply for it, I can send you the details and the contact information for the recruiter. You know it will be a lifetime's earning for you to make and save $150,000. And kindly do not use the b word, it does not suit an educated and enlightened man like you to use such filthy language. If you want to reply to my message, please use respectable English. You can take couple of days to reply if you need to coz you might need to consult your friends and a dictionary to come up with a decent language and reply.
It is Nepali men like you who drive Nepali women to seek partnership with men from other backgrounds. I just want to let you know that you are such a shame to a Nepali Community.

Go back and look once again.....who started to used such kind of abusive language,me or u?Who u r to call me a mother fgger?Everybody loves their life.....Don't talk those things to others..if u don't like when somebody talks to u.U r not the only one who loves ur life....we may not have enough money as u but still we have near and dear ones and we also don't want to put ur lives at risk..............
Hey,tell me one thing wat do u think, life is only important for u guys?who are we and those people who are struggling with their life? The very first time when i read ur thread,i thought u were a sensible person but now i think u r totally dumb and let me tell,u r in a state of "moratorium".Last but not the least, nothing to say abut Nepali women seeking partnership with men from other backgrounds....may be they find more pleasure and happiness from other men than from a stupid nepali mam like me.

Yup it looks like you got my point after all. Sadly to say, yes we do get more pleasure and happiness from men from other background, not to mention the RESPECT AND RECOGNITION for our hard work and accomplishments. And I do want to mention that I do have few Nepali men friends who are extremely intelligent and highly successful. Apparently there are few intelligent and good men on Sajha as well. My observation has been Samsara.
I was only offering to send you the details of the position and it was going to be totally your choice to pursue. I am not discounting the value of your life nor to discount your hard work and struggle. We all struggle in different levels especially in this country. I am not putting a gun to your head to take this linguist position, that is of course considering that you qualify for it.
Well I am going to stop blabbering. It is not productive to spit venom and insult others. So I am going to go take care of my other projects. BTW I am off today from work. It is rainy and dreary in Maryland today so this is the best decision I made today. And to tell you that if you do pursue to improve your skills, you can get a professional job which offers paid time off ( Yeah I am paid to stay home today and pick on your pea brain).
Chao everybody. Hope you meet you guy in other more productive threads. And Gazadi, have a pleasant day. Am not sure how the weather is in NY. Take care.

I am totally with you Anamika1 that it was ungrateful on the part of the other girl to not to acknowledge your help. But I think you would have made a stronger case for Gazadi to take an English class if you had written: a) "take AN English class" instead of "take A English class" b) spelled 'grammAr' instead of 'grammEr' :) Ya..the weather sucks!

Guest4: You know how it is when you reply to message when you are emotional. Or maybe this is an indication that I should take a refresher English class too. ;)
And thank you for your support. You know what this weather makes you want to do? It makes you want to cuddle in your cozy, warm comforter with a huge bowl of popcorn with tons of butter and watch a really good movie.

Anamika, After goin through ur discussion thread,I feel that u feel proud of urself.Thats pretty bad. Rememeber,Gazadi might have been emotional too while writing and made some mistakes. Its universal that human makes mistakes and english is not a native language for Gazadi and u too. So,be supportive for those kinds of things and don't post those comments judging others so inferior. There is no need to post the message Gazadi sent... can u post the message which u sent to Gazadi so that we can know the fact? And one thing,u r also a nepali.Lots of nepali work 12 hrs a day and 7 days a week for the sake of their family..Mostly those people are either aged people(around the age of ur father or uncle)or undergrad students striving hard for their good future. If u really think urself an educated and a sensible person, never ever discourage those people who are working so hard.It makes them feel really bad and they also have freaking human feelings as u.

Hey Anamika1 and others: I believe that USAID and US Embassy, who have recently co located at the New Embassy Compound in the Mahararajgunj area are seeking volunteers to go to Iraq for a year at one time. I believe quite a few Nepalis who work for USG in Nepal have already volunteered and there are at quite a few Nepalis working on behalf of the USG and its contractors in Iraq as we speak. I think that for some of the people posted in rural outposts in Kailali, Bardiya, Rukum, Rolpa, Salyan and a few other districts in the height of the Maoist insurgency in Nepal, it was as dangerous if you were working for the then "His Majesty's Government." My point being, if the money is good, then go for it. There are dangers in every aspect of our lives, be it at the Ronald Reagan Building in DC, or the New Embassy Compound in Kathmandu or inside the Green Zone in Bagdad!! San Rafael
