From cheap commuity college to world rankin universities like Texas A&M and Rice University.Big Nepali community.Easy to find job.Perfect weather to live. From Mountains of Austin to beaches of Houston, south padre.4th biggest city Houston, beautiful city Austin ,cowboys city Dallas and tourist city San Antonio.Cheap apartments easy to afford car etc.WHAT DO U THINK GUYS???????????????????????????

I am, Rahasya. This thread is a farce in so many different ways that its beyond hilarious. "Jungles in Austin" re. Texas has a great weather re. Ffs, didn't Dallas just break its own record of seeing the most number of consecutive days of mercury rising above 100? My buddies were telling me how the temperature would go above 90 at 7 am. Compare that to 65-75 degrees that the Bay Area enjoys throughout the summer (to go with no snow in winter). I don't think the temp went above 80 degrees more than 3 times during the entire summer. Chilly/cool mornings, mild-warm afternoons followed by mild/cool eveninngs.
Also, I don't really believe Texas is the best state for Students. If you're a student looking for quality education, Minnesota is the best state. Period. You can work your ass off during the summer and work PT during school year and end up graduating college from a decent University at an affordable rate and what's more, you won't even be 'wasting' extra 2-3 years in Community colleges before graduating. Further, you get to lead a typical 'American Life' whilst also socializing among fellow Nepalese. Parties, extra co-curricular activities, trips in Fall/Thanksgiving/Easter/Winter Breaks - you get to enjoy all those, too.
That said, I'm not saying Texas is bad or anything. You get to work like 50-70 hrs in Gas Stations without papers and go to colleges at an affordable rate, too. I just don't think that Texas is the best state to live in. Its not even close. North Carolina, Virginia, Oregon, California, Washington, Indiana and even Minnesota are just some of the better states off the top of my head.

footyfan,
Im sayin, Texas has good weather coz in winter we don have to wear thick clothes and jackets. In compare to 2 feet snow in other Eastern and Northern states and about Summer in Texas everybody can afford car so Ac in house, Ac in car, Ac in work, Ac in college so 2 months summer wont be big deal.We love heat coz IN TEXAS WE LOVE TO DRINK ICE COLD BEER IN HOT WEATHER.
Compare to Minnesota , Texas is way better in education. If u r lookin for cheap universities than there are many , If u have good Gpa and wanna study in scholarship than the uiversities like University of Houston, University of Texas at Airlington, University of Texas at Dallas,Texas A &m at commrce, Texas A&M at Galveston , Sam Houston university are the choice which offeres in state for Int'l student .Beside that If u wanna study in world rankin University than Rice university, University of Texas at Austin and Texas A&M college station are the best universities.
And about workin 50-70 hrs ,it depends upon person. here the culture on students are when they are in community college they work more than 50 hrs and save money and when they go to university they work 2,3 days a work .so u cant generalize that everybody work 70 hrs.
Workin 50-50 hrs without papers????? Why in california they give papers for student to work?????
I have seen lots of Nepali people in california dropping their college just for Asylum. California is way too expensive for students . Minnestota ,virginia etc hard to find job.
"TEXAS BIGGER THE BETTER"

I believe that no one state is better than any other state. It is about personal preference and it all comes down to what you like, what you want and what your needs are.
I live in New York City but I am not really a big fan of this place though. Yes, it is a great place but there are also a lot of other things that are not so great. Let me write down a few. In other states, you will hear people complaining about road rage but in NYC, not only will you see road rage but you will also experience sidewalk rage. Is sidewalk rage real? Hell yeah, it is real. Come over to NYC and you will know. You will always be trying to cut in front of people or walking fast enough so that people behind you don't get mad. The mentality here is 'either move or get out of the way'.
The transport system in NYC is pretty good but the first time I stepped into a train car, I thought I had stepped into a different era in time. Here is an example of what you might see and this is real. You will see a homeless guy sleeping in the corner with a big black garbage bag (just imagine the smell), a few Mexicans playing their their guitars for money, some weird looking guy with tattoos all over his body, some stripper-like girls giggling near the pole, a couple of high school kids smooching like they are about to make a baby, young kids crying their lungs out and just when you close your eyes to shut everything out, a beggar will walk in through the emergency exit shaking hard the little coins in the cup that he is carrying. Oh if you are lucky, you might even see rats in the train car but don't worry there will be some normal people around too. LOL.
Oh no, lets not talk about the people. Not only do New Yorkers look angry all the time but their rudeness is beyond belief. New Yorkers think they are experts at everything. My biggest pet peeve is when someone talks about something like he knows it but in actuality he knows nothing. I also feel that New Yorkers are rude or appear rude because they are not afraid to voice their opinions and there is also very litte separation between their private and public life. For example, most of us wouldn't scratch our a** in public but when we are at home we do it. People is NYC aren't embarrassed to scratch it in public. The mentality is "It is my a**, it is my business".
Aside from the negative stuffs of NYC, this place has a very good platform for people who wants to succeed in life. And 'If you can make it in NYC, you can make it anywhere'.

Bigrekhoketo, I don't really understand why you keep insisting that Texas has "World Class Universities". Its not like Texas is the hub for Education system. There are quite a few "World Class Universities" in Minnesota, too but to get into those Universities, you need to have a solid GPA, great SAT scores, recommendations etc. So why'd you worry about 'affordability' if you can get into those Universities? I mean, you could go to UCLA, UC-San Diego, UC - Berkeley, Cal Tech, Stanford in California, too.
I get the gist of what you're saying, though but personally, I really think that if you're an average Nepali student, Minnesota is the best. And by no means I was generalizing when I talked about people working 50-70 hrs. I have at least 30-50 friends who go to schools or live in Texas (who doesn't anyway?) and based on what I've heard, most people work hard, party hard for 2 years and if they managed to maintain a decent GPA, they get to go to UTA under in-state tuition. That's not a bad choice either but then there are plenty who've dropped out of colleges or are still "in process" of transferring to a 4-year college, despite having spent 4 years in community colleges.
Whether you wanna wear jackets in snowy winter or wear shorts and turn the ac on all summer long is your choice, though.
@Violet. NYC is one hell of a city. Dare I say its my type of city? I've managed to spend a week in NYC and loved it to bits but I wouldn't wanna live there, ever.

I have lived all my time in Texas( after I came to the US). I have visited all together 12 states (counted today) plus DC.
Other places are beautiful, and enjoyable, but I love living in Texas. It is basically because this is where I have lived all the time.
I believe it is same for all other people as well. You love where you live, and where you are used to.
Plus, for me Texas is good because of my career nature / education background too.

South has its CHEAP solution and some job opportunities in CERTAIN sectors..Not everybody is looking for that..
In a perfect situation, with a decent job and when money is not a problem, I would never live in Texas--TOOO HOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTt and its neighboring southern state, most of them are not even driveable forget about being liveable..
But, that doesn't mean there isnt anybody who can't make the most out of Texas or the southern states in general..its what floats ur boat and my boat just doesnt float around a bunch of uneducated hicks..with hot and humid weather...sure they talk about GOD and all but then they elect someone like GEORGE W.BUSH..
I stop right there!!
God bless you people in Texas and elsewhere in the SOUTH, glad it works for you all...a cheap solution for students...May be...!! Standard of living once you are settled in life? Not so amicable.
It can be temporary solution but not a permanent one for me...I would rather live in 4 months of heavy snow in Minnesota than 8 months of humid & HOT weather of Texas...

Standard of living once you settle in life? In MN you get nowhere.
It can be temporary solution but not a permanent one for me... i would rather live in 8 months of Texas than 4 months of humid & hot weather and snow blizzard and sub zero winds of Minnesota

@Fat Beast, You sure your friend isn't suffering from erectile dysfunction?
@Paulina, where do you live? (excuse my assertiveness if you feel like I'm being one, I'm curious, that's all).

haha. I fail to understand how erection and snow are co-related though. Are you telling me that if you were to 'dip' your penis inside an object that's over 115 degrees hot, you're gonna have a hard on if you were to see a naked hot lady?

Its simple, In hot place women wear short clothes I mean very short. By seeing half or 3/4 naked women man diickkkk erected so fast but in cold place like MN women wear long trousers and thick jackets literally they look like man.
So, from that prospective too its better to live in hot place.

Not surprised to see you fail to comprehend my post in all fairness. I mean, when you present an absolutely ridiculous perspective, what could one really expect? So Texas is better than Minnesota because you won't have a hard-on after digging your penis in snow? What sort of retarded logic is that...You tell me.

footyfan, i do not live in Minnesota or Texas, I live in the northeast, but I have been to both of these extreme opposite places..and hence my preference is for the cold place versus the hot place..
