guys i just had a accident few hrs ago.. i decided to consult sajhaites before i do anything... A middle age white lady hit me on back of my car and we pulled over to the sideway and we talked and was about to share each other insurance info but suddenly she gets on her vehicle and runs away... i chased her for few mins and finally convinced her to pull over to the side of a street... I called 911 and a sergeant arrives and i insisted him make a police report but he denies saying that nobody was hurt so there is no need of report and told us to come to the agreement mutually without going to insurance and police.. however, i was able to get this form from him where i could fill out infos and report the incident to the police department after 10 days if we couldnt come to the agreement.. that officer was suggesting not to report to insurance as it will increase premium of both... I told both officer and lady that i am not gonna report her for hit and run which could be devastating for her. i said lets report this to insurance and they will take care of my car... so basically police wasn't helping the case.
my thoughts is if there is no police report made then how can i prove that it was her fault... if she doesn't admit it.. she has hit and run away so she can't be trusted....i do have the pics of both vehicles taken and we have shared information of both parties but i don't know how should i deal with this... she tells me that give her 3 estimates and she will pay the median amount from her pocket it would be great but i am not quite sure about that... i don't know if i should report it to the insurance or i file a police report in 10 days.. can u guys help me here plzz...
thanx for your time ....

bro, if its clear case of hit from back there is no way it effect ur insurance . so claim insurance , and i think that officer was either racist or related to that girl to advice u like that. because if there is clear case of hit and run she shold be arrested and he shouldnot say dont report insurance. there is nothing to do with your insurance. because thats complete her fault. she was supposed to get tickets for hit and run too.
claim insurance dont try to settle case outside, she will pay less of course. in worat case hire lawer too.

had u hit the old lady's car, the cop would have made the police report in no time. Don't get fooled by not calling ur insurance. The first thing is call the insurance and do wateva they say. I am pretty sure u may have taken the officer's name in case u need later. You won't get any points for getting hit from back. If she has the gut to run away after hitting u and even after admiting that, the cop is telling u not to file police report, something is going in back. So the right call is just call ur insurace right away and tell then everything including wat the cop told u to make the deal with the woman.
You don't have to loose anything by calling insurance.

don't get into this 3 estimates and median thing. just ask her straightforward if she is wiling to pay the full cost to repair whatever damage happened. if she agrees to pay, go ahead and get your car fixed, no need to file a case, go to lawyer or insurance company, it's just a hassle. but if she doesn't agree, follow legal procedures - file a case on police and let your insurance company know.

Did you get her insurance information? Or did the police get her insurance info? When same thing happened to me, I had to get her insurance info from the police report ( I had liability only in my car) and call them and send them a copy of police report that stated drivers name, and intoxicated info. I am not sure but if you do not have her insurance info or way to get it, or if you don't have full coverage, then you are at her mercy to get compensation for the damage or knock the court doors! My suggestion is make a claim with her insurance comapny ( if you only have liability coverage) immidiately

i would say call yoru insurance company, go to the police office and talk to another office, file a case for hit and run, cuz that is what it is... people change their testomony all the time. she might say that you actually cut in and caused the accident, and then it will be your words vs her, unless the officer is not racist and gives testomony stating he witnessed the lady running away after the accident. insurance companies always try to not pay or settle things with each other, so they'll try to do mutual liability sating both parties have faults, then they will fix the car but will increase both parties premiums. that officers testomony is very imp. call your insurance company immideately and don't event ry to settle things with that lady, she's crazy to run like that. how big is the damage btw?
