First of all, don't get wrong idea from my name. I know some of you here are expert in Canadian permanent residency process. I am just about to apply for it as skilled worker at Buffalo center, and I need your help.. please. Right now, I am going through Appendix of checklist, and I found a few things confusing. Proof of English: I got my bechelor's degree and master's degree in the U.S. What is that, written submission of detailing your trainning, in and use of, English? Official documentation of education in English? Don't education certificates from the US universities prove my English proficiency? Police certificate and clearances: I have been in the US about 10 years. I have a recent police report from Nepal... Now how am I supposed to get one from the US? I didn't understand this part: submit original fingerprints directly to the authorieis conducting the police checks? Can somebody elaborate on this part? I would really appriciate this.

Raj, For your Police report from US. Once you submit your application to Canadian consulate (in buffalo or whereever you are) they will sent you a copy of fingerprint that you need to take it to your local FBI and you will get a copy from FBI and another copy will be sent to Canadian consulate.

HOW TO OBTAIN A POLICE CERTIFICATE FROM AUTHORITIES IN THE UNITED STATES Applicants requiring Police Certificates who are currently present in the United States or who have stayed in the U.S. for six months or more MUST obtain police clearance from theFEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION (FBI). STEP ONE - HAVE A FULL SET OF FINGERPRINTS TAKEN BY A RECOGNIZEDAGENCY: Fingerprints for U.S. record checks should be taken on the FBI FINGERPRINT FORM. Do not contact any FBI office regarding fingerprinting. A Fingerprint Form can beobtained by requesting one by mail from the FBI at the address listed below. Fingerprints can usually be taken in the U.S. by a LOCAL POLICE DEPARTMENT. Persons MAY also be fingerprinted at a regional office of the DEPT. OF MOTORVEHICLES, or from a private organization engaged in the fingerprinting business. Theapplicant should always specify when making a fingerprinting request that it isrequired for Canadian immigration purposes. Applicants appearing for fingerprinting will also need PHOTO IDENTIFICATION, such as a passport. They should also be prepared to provide fingerprinting agents with details including full name, maiden name, any aliases, date of birth, sex, race, social security number, proof of identity, and the reason for requesting fingerprinting (Canadian immigration purposes). A fee will usually be charged for fingerprinting. Fees vary according to the locationwhere the applicant is fingerprinted. STEP TWO - SEND FINGERPRINTS ALONG WITH A PROCESSING FEE TO THEFBI: Federal Bureau of Investigation, Criminal Justice Information Services Division (CJIS Division), Attn: SCU, Mod. D-2, 1000 Custer Hollow Road, Clarksburg, West Virginia, U.S.A., 26306. A CERTIFIED CHECK OR MONEY ORDER for U.S. $18 should be made payable to"Treasury of the United States". Processing usually takes between 6 and 8 weeks. The FBI will send the applicant theresults of their check by RETURNING their fingerprint card. THAT IS THEAPPLICANT'S POLICE CERTIFICATE. STEP THREE - SEND THE POLICE CERTIFICATE TO THE CANADIAN VISAOFFICE PROCESSING YOUR APPLICATION. _____________________________________________________ And this is the link: http://www.dfait-maeci.gc.ca/can-am/buffalo/visas/police_certificate-en.asp#how_us

Hello, I have a question to Newlynew or Shree... I have prepared all my documents and ready to mail. But, I got a question regarding processing fee. The following links tell me that processing fee is 465 US DOLLAR per person. Is there any other fees do I need to send when I send my application? http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/applications/guides/EG76.html#wp612810 http://www.dfait-maeci.gc.ca/can-am/buffalo/visas/fees-en.asp Now, what is that "Right of Permanent Residence Fee"? The website tells me that I can pay this fee later when they ask me. I would really appriciate your answer.

Sukul Gunda, the processing fee is the fee you are paying them to look at your application. It's non-refundable whether an application will be successful or not. The right of landing fee is the fee you pay, basically, when you land here (probably they are charging to update your records or whatever). therefore, it is applicable only for successful applications. in a situation where the applicant had already paid the "landing" fees at the time of applying but his application becomes unsuccessful, the right of landing fees are reimbursed. so it (the landing fee) can be paid at the time of submission of application or at the time of landing into canada. if you pay it now, you save some time at the end when your application is approved and you are asked for this fee. in your case, sukul gunda, i recommend you pay this at the beginning because your application almost certainly will be approved. to possibly avoid another question, let me give another example too. if you are applying for yourself, your spouse and kids, then your application fees would be for just ONE application; however, the "landing" fees would be for each of the person (465 bucks * num of persons). Hope, i made it clear. keep rolling...

Just one correction: ================================= if you are applying for yourself, your spouse and kids, then your application fees would be for just ONE application ================================= This is incorrect. Refer to http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/skilled/before-2.html For current fees in CAD. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/applications/fees.html#swpf hope this helps

In my opinion, Canada should not be charging landing fees to the people immigrating as "skilled Worker". Such people already have got higher educations (in most cases above bachelor's degree), and they are already skilled workers. To Canada, that's a great savings as Canada never invested for the people in this category to educate them and so many other social aspects (health, etc etc). Canada is benefitting by allowing skilled workers coming into their country and having Master's degree holders to work in McDonald, KFC or in the factory asssembly like filling pills in the small medicine bottles and packaging them. Canada lai ta faida nai faida chha ni.

In my opinion, rather Canada should give money to such skilled immigrants to update thier education/skills to suit Canadian system or whatever to enable them to acquint Canadain working environment. That money should be at least $10,000 FREE to study (not for smoking grass ni), and if they need more than that, then above 10,000 should be student loan.

Canada treats anyone not born in Canada equally. US is not an exception. Dual is allowed.

Again, question to our Sajha Lawyers, How long do they take to respond you after you send your application package? I sent them my application about four weeks ago, but I haven't heard anything from them yet.

Hi, I am a Nepalese citizen currently in USA. I had done my undergraduate degree in India. I had applied for Canadian Green Card and now I got a letter from the Canadian Consulate asking for the Indian Police Clearance Certificate. Anyone knows how to get that? I would really appreciate any info that you could provide. Thanks, Katrina

On health check issue: What is the main motive of the health check? Are they only trying to avoid the "saruwa rog"? or are they trying to filter based on other medical conditions as well to avoid long term medical/insurance costs. The reason is this - One of my friends's dependent has a sort of medical condition which is not an infectious disease however is going to be with her throughout her life. Long term cost could be high for the Canada government for her insurance and treatment. On this ground, do you think there is a chance for Canada to deny the othewise perfect coupld PR? Thanks in advance.

As far as I know, India does not issue Police clearance certificate. The Canadians know this and they will not ask for it. Even if they do ask, just tell them that India does not issue the certificate to anyone.
