Hi,

One of my frens is planning to apply for Masters in Public Health (MPH) programs. He has completed his Masters in Business studies from TU and currently working in health related INGO in Nepal. Are there anyone who are in similar programs? I am seeking information on good programs and scholarships opportunities.

Once I remember a post that mentioned about a site from where you can send online applications to many grad schools in the US. Does anyone remember?

Any info would be appreciated.

thanks.

Indigo SLU (Saint Louis University) offers a public health program. Since they waive the application fee (for a limited time only), do tell your fren to apply. Also I know they have offered full scholarship in the past. They might still do that. the website is www.slu.edu
SLU is in St. Louis, Missouri.

Hope this helps.

The Master's in Epidemiology at University of California at Davis is also a good course for someone interested in epidemiology aka public health as the principles involved are the same. Great school, and it also gives scholarships to some extent. It would not hurt to apply.

My friend joins me in expressing gratitude to meera, nepali_soul, and charikote maila for responding to my help call.

As I have been doing some look-around on the MPH topic, it appears to be more suited for people with medical background who are keen to pursue an administrative career in health sector rather than for people with non-medical background. What kind of job prospects abound for MPH degree-holders. Any comments/thoughts.

I hope any discussion on this thread will be helpful for those who are thinking of pursuing a career in public health.

thanks.

I think one's decision to choose a college for MPH depends on the concentrations like Biostatistics, epidemiology or even health communication etc.

I am attending some of the classes that will lead me to MPH at Tufts University (BTW thier MPH is not the greatest like Harvard or UNC) and the health communication seems to be the strongest as they have joint classes with Emerson College. I get to see all those local TV health reporters.

One does not have to related to medical field to take MPH. But ultimately they do get affiliated to health field.
