for Kari: I very recently took the NCLEX RN exam. i took it few weeks ago and i passed it. I would like to share my experience and hope it helps. I used the KAPLAN practice questions. I never really opened the KAPLAN book though. Yes, KAPLAN practice questions are way harder than actual NCLEX questions. I also listened to some of those HURST videos for content because i found the KAPLAN videos boring. But the key i think to pass NCLEX is the test taking skills and being calm while taking the test. If the questions being asked sounds simple, it really is simple. Please don't think of it as a trick question and start over thinking and pick the wrong answer. I remember the KAPLAN instructor saying that NCLEX is basic knowledge testing exam and not to over think on the questions. Also the new NCLEX now focuses more on prioritization, infection control, delegation and safety. I took 75 questions of which i think i only had about 4-5 that actually asked about disease condition or little bit of patho. Mostly it was prioritization, delegation and infection control. Know your PPEs for different types of infections. Know what diseases fall under what kind of infection precautions, for eg: contact isolation, airborne precautions etc. and how to approach these types of patient. Know what can be delegated to LVNs, CNAs etc. and lastly i personally think from my and my friends' experience, focus on just couple of study materials and use it wisely rather than jumping over a material to another. I wish you all the best. Do not lose hope. There are lot of nursing students that passed this test. You can too. stay calm, focused and positive.

sorry for being a bit off-topic,but after reading Kari dd's post,I wish to ask some few questions. I have passed my high school from Nepal and thinking of coming to the US for my B.SC.nursing.but I am confused whether doing a BSN in Nepal or in the US would be a better choice.I mean how difficult is the course? how manageable are the fees? and is it that a US graduated nurse would have better prospects of passing nclex and obtaining license than one graduated from Nepalese university? can anyone walk me through this? any suggestion will be appreciated. thankyou!

You need to pass 10+2 from Nepal (I think that's what you meant to say by high school)? Are you coming here on student visa (F1). You will have some hard time finding and maintaining job for long term on F1 even if you graduate with a BSN degree from US (due to student visa). If your ultimate goal is to settle in US, I strongly recommend you get your BSN from US. Currently it is very very hard for people on F1 or F2 (spouse of F1) who have their BSN from overseas to get job in US even when they have passed NCLEX here (personally know at least 4 who are now on same boat for 1-3 years who graduated from Nepal, India, Australia, & UK). Bottom line, if you plan on ultimately coming to US get your education here in US regardless of what you plan on majoring. Answering your second question, as long as you put your effort and hard work the course is not difficult. Managing fees depends on numerous factors such as where you live, what kind of university or colleges you attend, your lifestyle, what kind of job you can land while schooling and so on. In general I will say Yes to your last question. Good luck!!!!!!

Kari.. Do not loose hope. We have completed nursing school and there is no way to back up. I know we all get frustrated but relax, pray and practice questions more, rather than focusing on more resources try to complete one. Saunders or Hurst is very good for content. Do more questions and focus on how to prioritize and delegate. Let me know if u need any help. Best of luck.

I am sorry to be that heart breaker, but at this point you need to consider some other career. As a F1 student myself I know its really hard from financial point of view and also from having to spend many more years of your life into something else. Having said that, 6 attempts is to much and personally as one of the hospital administrators who interviews nurses for job I will find it very hard to recommend you for any position that involves direct patient care and CE.

@saaney bro, thank you very much.with what you said, there has been some relief . consultancies here make things appear frustrating.many of them even suggest I choose Australia over US for my BSN and that Nepalese students going to US for BSN is rather unheard.yes I did my +2 in science and thinking of applying for fall 2016(in F1 VISA). i will be taking my TOEFL and SAT this December and hoping for the best.now decided, I will apply to US universities if and only if my SAT scores turn out good so as to get a good amount of scholarship.but after reading a similar thread earlier regarding undergrad advice( saw that you've commented too),somewhere down I doubt if going to US for undergrad would be a good decision.to be honest, having known what awaits a nurse at the end of the month here in Nepal, my ultimate goal is to work as a nurse in US.most people tell me undergrad life in US is not easy and that's true but I fear if struggling as a nurse from Nepalese university to get a license is gonna be even tougher.

if you ask me whether or not you should come to US, I will say DO NOT COME. That's the same advice I have given and will give to my family members. It is very hard (read almost impossible) to get H1B or green card (GC) sponsorship even with US BSN degree for F1 students. The hardest challenge in US is the limitations that come with being on student visa than money and difficulty of the course itself in my opinion. If you do not have any problem marrying anyone (often Kaley, gorey, Mexican, Pakistani etc) like other Nepalese (mostly girls) to just get your green card than you will be fine in US. The best routes are getting a DV or honestly marrying a person with H1B, GC or US citizenship.

@saaney bro,i truly appreciate your advice and thank you for taking time to answer my queries.yes, even I have heard most F1 students are left with 'what after graduation'? getting GC is not easy and going back home is not what you want.going to grad school is rather expensive and visa expiry is on it's way.people say some go for US army MAVNI while others file for asylum, few marry khaires.keeping all these in account ,I guess I should give Australia a try as Nepalese university degree is gonna take me nowhere and people say Australia is more liberal is granting PR.anyways, thanks again.and good luck with what you've been doing.and yes,HAPPY DASHAIN !!!!

hello kari, i recently passed nclex second time. Don't lose hope, if i can do it, then anyone can do it. Just go from cover to cover of Saunders book and do questions from kaplan qbank and QT, kaplan Q's are somehow similar to NCLEX. Also, practice Qs from Linda LaCharity book. you will end up doing more than 3000 Qs, and i think those Qs prepare you enough to defeat Nclex. If you need further infos and my study schedule, email me, i will be more than happy to help you :). Good Luck.
