Hey everybody, lets start a thread about any experiences and stories on how your life as a IT consultant started and how it ended up and if not ended up then how its going and all the whole nine yards. I'm thinking of joining a similar field and wanna know how it is out there for IT consultants. I've heard of some dajusbhais didisbahinis doing pretty good and some not even getting a project yet. But lets hear some from you.

sheetalb: sorry for my stupid long useless advice. of course if you have the energy and interest anything is achievable. in no way was i discouraging you from getting trained (if that's what you want to do). i know of a chinese guy who was a computer guy and at the age of 35 went back to school to study medicine and became a doctor. so go for it... get trained and all the best for your future. just ignore my postings. - midwestdude

Thanks, Well at this point, any discouraging words, i cannot hear or listen to as you see desperate time demands desperate measures and i am not trying to say i am smart but some of the things are not rocket science either. Hopefully, will be able to train somewhere and get a JOB, is the focus for now.

Sheetalb: "Does my name sounds 'bro' to you???? it is aakar8@hotmail.com" Woah there sheetal, hold your horses now! I was just trying to be friendly, I never realized anyone could get offended by being called "bro". And I think you are being a little rude there... we are here to "help" each other not "serve" each other, so please maintain the mutual respect.

sheetalb: i agree that desperate times require desperate measures... just keep in mind that every dark cloud has a silver lining. if this is what you've set out to do... go for it. SAP has better money so try your best and if you can sell yourself you will do good.

Sheetalb: Also keep in mind it's not only about getting a job, the difficult part is keeping it. So whatever you decide to do..good luck. I have no clue about SAP FICO and any of it's modules. One thing you might want to find out is, how difficult is it to get a first job with SAP FICO training? Is it as easier than QA? Anyone?

ITGuy, Thanks for that link you provided yesterday. I looked it up but I don't think we need to worry about that as long as we are getting free training on those modules from the consulting company. I know this question might sound stupid, but are there any "online book" or "e-book" kinda thing where we can go and look up solutions on SAP FICO for different scenarios/problems that might arise when on the project. I do realize that there are books on SAP FICO where they will have different scenarios/problems and corresponding solutions for them, but do they have any online version for those?

No matter what training you do it's the most important part when it comes to the point of technical interview. It is the most carefully planned strategy in your search for the job.I didnt have a single IT class in my whole life, had taken c++ once in 1999 but failed the mid term and dropped.I graduated in biochemistry and looked for job from january 2004 to december. No luck finding the job in biochemistry, someone suggested me to take MCDBA course,I spent 1 whole year in that but still no luck till 2005.Then I moved on to other database admin courses, did oracle dba, after 12 months only I was able to make it into the job.I attended 22 face to face interviews criss crossing the whole country, sought help from Nepali and Indian friends.I had to mask the lies I wrote in resume to prove that I had been working since last 4 years as dba, finally i was able to do get the job only after my 23rd attempt. Someone who was trained with me for SQL server was still attending interviews for dba role by the time I had landed the job and he also got it in the same company after 2 months now where I work and makes more money than me as he was able to polish his lies more competitively than myself. My sincere suggestion is that dont stop fighting for something you want,it will happen one day for you eventually.

Gohtalojee, My best wishes first of all. I got hired direct because i did the training in an Indian consultancy and they charged me about 4 thousand. It was a package deal that if you do MCDBA and later want to do some other courses then there was discount for the second course. So it was around 4200 including books etc plus free vouchers for the certification exams,I used three of them. I did my training in an institute called mircohard, you can talk to them and take classes if you need info here it is microhard.com. Either microsoft or Oracle whichever you want to do,please make sure you know someone in this field who is already working. You need to be in a very good relationship with this person.I will tell you the reasons: people dont want to share corporate info due to security reasons and personal ones as well. I bought whisky every friday to invite one Nepali DBA who said would help me prepare for the interviews and all,I was hopeless, had to do this. He barely taught me anything. Make sure you have someone who will at least tell you his first few hours of work at his job. Without getting a real picture of what happens inside the dark room of data centers you will never make it to that cubicle ( it's very comfortable after you reach there). Think of certification right after you do the training. Certifications add value to your searches, you get more calls which means more chances of being hired. any other things you can email me and I will happily share with you, conditionally speaking, whenever I can.oracleguy10g@yahoo.com

Hi, CrystalCracker I am willing to work with either J2EE/Java or DBA whatever I get first and which ever offer is better.I know about the J2EE architecture.I have done one project using VO,DAO,entity beans and sessions beans and the jsp.I understood the most of the things but I was following the example template that my professor gave. Please let me know if this experience will help me in getting one. Regards, Raj

Gohtalo, If you are from computer-science background, I think that much of idea should be okey to start with, provided your core java is good. I think now you should be do things further with self study and I wont suggest you to go to any indian recruiters for training. Can you contact me once with your resume?
