Sorry guys, nothing to do with the origional posting but I thought I can share something useful to you.

I am a hardcore opponent of caste system, which is non-scientic, irrational and regressive. However, I am kind of interested in peculiar kind of history, not the political one :). We believe we are very civilized but we hardly have a written history of few hundred years. China has written history of more than four thousand years. Egypsians had developed writings more than 5000 years ago. So, what I am going to say may not be written in your Hisotry books; accept it if it sounds rational otherwise reject it. Or you may go an ask to some of your knowledgable trustworthy elders.

When India were attacked by Muslims, the so called upper casts migrated towards north. Out of three upper casts, ie, Brahman, Kshatriya, and Vaishya, only Brahman got migrated in large quantiy to save their Sanatan Dharma. It was because most of the Kshatriyas got killed and Vaishya accepted the Muslim rule. This is the reason why you don't see any Vaishya in Nepal which have Indian roots. And there are very few India rooted Kahatriyas as well.

How Brahman came?

Some Brahman men, came first to today's Nepal, having kept thier family in Kumau to know about the safety situation. At that time there were small Magar kingdoms in the hills. Magars were very unorganized and alcoholic. They got married with Magar Princes and had kids. As they won the favor of the Magar kings, they asked their families back in Kumau to come.

But they already had family in Nepal. When they were asked about those Brahman looking kids from Magar princes, they said that those kids were the grandson of the Magar King. Brahmin made their own kids from the Nepali wifes lower than the kids from their Indian wifes. Poor Brahmins! Blind out of wrong view of superiority complex! They even didn't give their last name to their own blood. Or perhaps Brahman din't have tradition to have their last name, that's why they keep last name from the name of thier residence. Like, Nepal, Pokhral etc.

So those half Brahman and Half Magar took their Mother's family name .... Thapa .... Budhathoki ..... Khadka ... etc. These people becames Kashatriyas. There were very few Kahatriyas in the Indian refugee group :), they took power and replaced unmindful, alcoholic Magar kings. King Gyanendra might be the decendent of those Indian Kshatriyas. However, he also has Brahmin and Magar blood running in his vein through marriages.

This is the reason why some Kshatriyas looks like Brahman and some like Magar and some are in between. ......Darwinism :).

Those Brahmans, who are half brothers of Kshatriyas, are called Kumai Brahman. Prehaps this might be one of the the reasons why Purbe (who came from east) Bahun consider Kumai bahun low.

Anyway, what should we learn from this history? Bahun and Kshatriyas are related by blood. They are half brothers. They are all equal, they have the same blood running in their veins. They should love each other and live harmoniously. No high, no low. Similarly, Kshatriya and Magar are also brothers. They have same blood running in their veins. They should love each other like brothers and live with harmony. No high no low.

This is how we all are related and intermixed and should live harmoniously. If you go back we all were from the same root, we all are homosapian. Living in different climate made our look different, that is it. In future we will also be same, we are fusing, don't we? It's just a narrowmindedness to seperate people by cast, ethenic group etc.

All over the world we all have same number of blood group, we all have same number of chrosomes. Biologically also we are same. So, why difference? Lets break this narrow thinking. Those who wants to preserve such non-scientific, irrational system, they will not be able to......this is my challange................ Time is oxidising the pillor of descrimination.

Please correct the mistakes yourself.

VISHONTAR, just one note ... Kumai Bhauns used to consider Purbes as almost untouchable - they considered themselves higher spritually than purbe bahuns.

Sorry Lalpari Ji, I didn't know that. I have heard just opposite of it. I looks so funny to me when people think they are supperior over other for no solid reason. I strongly believe that the superiority should be acquired by personal good qualities not by blood.

I eveluate people by their good qualities and wholsome deeds not by blood, ethenic group, race and family. Superiority is personal, and individual; of course family values motivates, that I agree with.

Hindus have caste inside caste, that amaze me. Brahman is a caste and it has subcastes inside with descrimination. Our system is not scientific; it is one of the most regressive systems of the world. You are low, I am high; I am superrior you are inferrior; I am great you are weak. I am better than you. The system is all about descrimination. The descrimination is not only outside the caste but also inside the caste as well. How beautifully the poet has expressed the reality.

No one can be high and low by blood.
High or low is determined by qualities.
