Just curious to know, if Nepal needs to chose a second official language, (say like Spanish in USA and French in Canada) which language should be chosen as a second official language?
If you chose the one based on population, it should be Magar language,
If you chose the one based on uniformity of language spoken by the largest majority, it should be Tharu language (because Magar dialects are too versatile)
If you chose one based on ease in availability of literature, historical background, and cultural links it should be Maithali or Nepalbhasa (Newari)
If you chose the one based on uniqueness of nepalese value added with rich cultural ties, it should be Nepalbhasa (Newari)
If you chose the one based on ease of use by the majority of nepalese, it should be Hindi.
Which one would you prefer to chose ? Why ?

ok, what is the necessity of selecting a second official language? Why do we need other language ?If we really need any other language English would probably be the best as world understands it.We donot need any other language as 2nd ,3rd,4th official language we only need is a language that we all understan that stands for Nepal, A "NEPALI" as an official language.Proper respect should be given to all other languages spoken throught NEpal.

I am myself totally confused as what is the necessity to be indulged in this second language thing ? Prioritywise there are so many other genuine issues that needs to be addressed...like running water, education, and electricity or any form of energy, the basic needs are so much unfulfilled..but these so called leaders are busy in the topics which can so easily ignite the fire which was never seen before in the citizens of Nepal.
The selection of the people who r so much behind the problem today would never have been possible if the parties had put countries interest first..they had to form govt anyway....national interest can go to hell...thus giving in to stupid people's stupid demands..and hence all these implications.

Dear friends, when it comes to your opinion about Nepal, it holds no weight. It's really sad and i'm on the same boat as well. we did not want prachanda to run maoist army, he did and not only that he's the prime minister now. we did not want medeshis to feel different and do not like Indian influence, guess what you know, now medeshi is your president and upa president, and not only that your first upa president haha swore in Hindi.
what you want and what you don't want hold no value, it is totally meaningless. and the funny part is everything you and i don't want , it passes through majority vote in Nepal. for example, the Nepalli people chose prachanda as their president. so it must mean you and i are the minority. in communist we could've easily labeled as traitors, but in democracy opps paron the new republic Nepal where a killer is the super power we are merely small insects who can cry out loud but have no other fate than to be crushed by the giant step of maoists and girija. and mannai parcha baaaa, they do it with majority opinion and with voting.

Kalopani bro,
Honestly I would have felt much better and proud if someone more able, less controversial, more positive, and independent person was our VP and President..which caste/community/region..I don't care..makes no difference.
Still having known Dr Yadav, he is not the worst choice. He is much better among the choices we had. He respects Nepal's national language, dress, and identity and importantly he has come from humble beginnings to be a doctor. I m sure he can do better if he has strong will power.
But he has to rise above his party line..which I hope he will..and my best wishes are with him.
It treally makes no difference who is at the helm as long as he deserves it..by virtue of his character, ability and vision..not by virtue of his colour or religion or region.
Sadly this is what is true.
We can do at least one thing. We can be objective. If possible. We can have a coalition..if possible..

coming to think of a federal structure, an ideal scenario IMO would be Nepali and English as two official languages in the union level and local/native language as second official language at the state level where a good majority of the people speak/understand that particular language (means it is more common than Nepali). If that makes Hindi a second official language (after Nepali) for the local people/regions, I think the state and the country should not have any objection(s) in making it official for that region. Sometimes we are two emotional for weaker reasons and at wrong places coz: 1) There are more complex and serious issues that are demanding more attention than the second official language thing. 2) Just because a section of people speak Hindi and a small part of Nepal has it as a second official language doesn't/shouldn't jeopardize our integrity long as we have firm and fair policies in trade, commerce, resource sharing and very many other areas with the big bro. peace...

Oh and one more thing: if it's of any comfort to those blind Indian haters we have here in sajha and elsewhere, Nepali is one of the 23 official languages in India. Assam, West Bengal and Sikkim (if my memory serves me right) have it.
