The six months deal you heard is not true at least to the best of my knowledge. They've slapped a 6 month (minimum) censorship on the media. As for communications, there were rumours that lines would be restored after 72 hours of the address. But that transpires in a couple of hours now. So let's see. For the last couple of days landlines have been on between 9 pm to 10:15/20 pm.

Riot police officers confiscate photographic material from TIME magazine photographer Samantha Appleton as TIME writer Phil Zabriskie looks on after he was refused exit from a Congress party meeting after police raided the reunion by party members in Katmandu, Nepal, Friday, Feb. 4, 2005. Dozens of paramilitary police raided an underground political meeting Friday and rounded up a group of party officials, days after a state of emergency was declared in this Himalayan kingdom and public gatherings were banned. Reporters and photographers covering the meeting, from both the Nepalese and international press, were also held briefly held. The authorities confiscated digital camera discs and TV videotape from the journalists. (AP Photo/Elizabeth Dalziel)

If police had taken the film, digital camera etc etc than how this photo came here? Also it seem old photo of security people checking as it is not possible to send pic from Kathmandu now.

This is not time to play. Every one need to be serious as it is connected with the future of the country and people.

hi friends,
yea, its like 9:51 in ktm right now, and ive been trying for the past 1 hour (According to what i read here on sajha), and the phone lines still seem to be cut.
HOWEVER, i heard from a friend, who has links to nepal via satellite, that the internet will work tomorrow for 72 hours. now, im not sure, and im not spreading rumours, im just telling you what i heard. i hope they open up internet access tomorrow, it will be a great relief.
also heard that life is normal in ktm...but seeing is believing, and talking to family is believing.
ive been trying day n night, for the past 4 days, no luck.
lets hope that wat i heard bout the internet is true, so that we can atleast email them or hear from family and friends back home.
good luck to you all,
one love,
one nepali heart.

Medical Emergency!!!! Help needed.

I got a call from an American family who lives in Idaho that a Nepali girl (19 year old freshman in Moscow, Idaho) has been diagnosed with a cancerous tumor. This family lived in Nepal for years and are close to the Nepali students there.

The girl's family knows that their daughter has cancer, but doesn't know that within the last few days, she has been taken to Seattle for checkup, and a cure is very possible. She will be in the hospital going through cemo and surgery, with insurance covering her medical expenses, for a total of six months. Everyone she knows has been trying to find a person with a satellite phone to call her home. They need to fly her mom to Seattle from Nepal ASAP to take care of her following surgery.

I tried calling people I knew with no luck finding someone who has access to a satellite phone. I am worried about the safety of my family in Nepal, but will wait out until the phone lines open up. However, this girl cannot. This is an emergency. Please please reply to this thread if you know anyone in Nepal with a satellite phone, and we will arrange details on getting her to call home.

I apologize for posting this on multiple threads.

Thanks in advance.

Very true, I feel like doing so too. But don't know if I should right away. I will wait for few months.
Think of possible things I can do going back. Then I will go back.

No phone is up till today, it has been a week already. I don't know whether it is going to come back. For some of us we are feeling it is ok, for some since we are feel sick of communication gap .
I don't know where our nation is moving. If I knew it is going all in right direction I would not mind if there is no communication, coz it is also our duty to support the right. If not then this will be a big disaster. People will be dying in Nepal and we won't even know what is happening.
So let us all have a same voice that at least communication to be restored. Internet is optional thing but let us voice to get back phone communication.
