I've got a problem with my computer. It's like when I turn on, the windowsXP starts loading for a second and stops and restarts itself and then the same thing repeats.
It doesn't restart when I load BIOS but yes it restarts when windowsXP starts loading, now does that mean I can never get my computer turned on unless I repair or what?
[when I turn the computer on it says " We apologize for the inconvinience, windows did not start normally" and it shows the boot options and I tried all of them but it's the same thing, keeps restarting itself but I can only get to the BIOS mode and I don't think I have installed any hardware or software reecently, last time it worked normally, I turned it off and I tried turning it on after an hour or so and that happened]

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Master Boot Record (MBR) might be corrupt. If ur system was intact before and you are sure its not created by malware, you can try repairing the system with windows xp installer (your CD).

to retrieve your important files therein, download "Knoppix" live CD Linux (could be DVD too, i m not aware of recent versions). Or, search for "live linux" distros (such as SUSE Live, PC OS linux or sth like that and so on- there are tons of them) from

Then boot from the live linux and transfer your files to external media such as USB-connector storage (like flash drive, external hard drive etc)

just a note, conflict between security related software also causes this type of problem. for instance, not all firewall and AV software are mutually friendly.

Keep rolling...

There're few options to get over with this problem.
1. Toss the computer out of your windown.
2.Call Microsoft and complain them about it and never use any of their product.
3.Read a book and look for answer
4.Try to find your Indian tech friend from your college, even if he's in India right now, call him

Hope that helps

shree5 & sona -- How am I gonna download anything or reinstall, repair windowsXP when I cannot even get to the windows?

care -- I can only get on to BIOS, it's when you press del when PC starts.

Vhoote, Thanks for your time, but sorry none of them seems to help solve the problem out.

I don't want to format, there are some important personal and office files in my computer!

Thanks.

Pink,

to repair windows xp, plug in the windows xp cd into the cd drive and reboot (the CD drive prioritized in the BIOS boot-sequence, of course). keep on hitting whatever key it asks you to hit and choose the 'repair' option whenever you are asked with one.

however, it is also a slightly risky business - depending on your habit of computer operation tho. if your operating system resides in a separate partition while all the applications files (including the "My Documents" folder too) in another separate partition, like mine, then even if you have to wipe the entire system out, all you lose is your operating system and installed applications which can be reinstalled again. but if you have everything within a nutshell drive called "C:\", then repair attempts might fail in which case you are left with nothing but meaningless binary data (0s and 1s). for more computer-oriented people, there do exist software tools (some even free) which help to recover files from a formatted partition too. in such a case, some knowledge of indices, inodes and hard drive zoning MIGHT also be required - remember FBI guys recovering data from formatted drives - you can do that too ;).

therefore, i was suggesting you to recover all the application files (like your word, excel documents, music, movies, pictures etc) before you set out for anything risky. and that is done by taking control of your machine with another operating system which does not need to be INSTALLED (means nothing is written to your local hard drive). just as you can boot a computer from a floppy drive (such as MS DOS in the good old days), there exist free Linux CDs or DVDs that run from a CD drive (some are compiled by especially targeting these type of scenes, so they are able to decipher even corrupt hard drives ). Such distributions provide the capabilities of a full-fledged operating system including mouse and internet operativity and so on (even beyond what Windows XP can offer). that means, you are looking inside your supposedly corrupt hard drive from what is EQUIVALENTLY another computer. Then, you can copy the files to a safe place and take any risks to repair your computer. Obviously, you have to look for other sources to download and burn the live linux CD.

Hope i made it clear.

Keep rolling...

Okie, Give me a break, ha ha !
See, I did put the WindowsXP CD in the CD drive and turned my PC on but no response. The CD drive just makes buzzy noise and blinks with a green light and nothing happens in BIOS when I put the CD in either. I just wanted to let you know this before you go over the datas and programs in the computer because right now I don't even get any response from the CD drive.
Thanks for your time...

Pink,

sorry that i tried to help u with all of my knowhow, but i appear to have come to my limits of knowledge on the matter. all i can suggest more is that give a shot to the live linux thingy with the computer from which you are posting these messages.

but hey,
wait a while, two prominent sajhalis - Echoes and redstone, will be hopefully coming soon. they have been notoriously solving your type of chronic cases.

just a bit of patience and, ddddnnnng.... Echoes and redstone will definitely pop up. redstone को उठ्ने बेला पनि भए होला अब त ;) रातामाटे, तिमी कहाँ छौ, तिमी नभै भएन यहाँ ।

Keep rolling...

If your PC can't read from the XP CD, try using DOS Boot floppy, then when u get to the command prompt, just run the cd from there.

If you don't care about losing the data on your machine, what's the problem rebooting from the install disk?

0. Put the Install CD in.
1. Reboot and go to BIOS.
2. Go to the tab/section where it says something like 'Boot Device Priority"..something similar.
3. There, change the priority so that your CDROM is listed at Priority #1.
4. Save the changes and exit BIOS.

Your computer should now boot from the CD (Watch closely, it *may* ask you to press a certain key to book from CD).

5. Reinstall/repair your XP.

#3 may not be very intuitive. Ask if you need further help. Just don't say "I did it and still doesn't work"...

If you need more help, Reddy is my IT guy. He usually comes to pretty girls' rescue instantaneously. So pretend like a pretty girl if you are a guy... In jest ;-)
