To all, Be proud in serving your country. Born in Nepal does not make you patriotic and there is no need to be proud of it!!

I have seen more people just bullshitting than actually doing something for the country and people. Well this is nothing new. But it is time all of us do something rather than just flapping our mouth--I am proud of my country..Lets cut the bullshit and just do something...whether voluntaring time for the community or making small donation. Just a thought.......

Jivman, that is, indeed an angry thought. Well, i have to say that I am still proud to be nepali and when i will do something gracious, I will be prouder. Just a fact that I was born in nepal made me proud to be Nepali. Shouldn't shy away from this dude

I am proud It is easy to be proud of USA, a country that is called the super power of the world. It is easy to sing 'Vande Matram', when your country has nukes that can destroy the neighbours. It is easy to play a bag piper wearing a kilt when your country boasts a language that is spoken all over. I belong to a country with rich history, but nothing to show at the present. Whose label of 'most peaceful country in the world' is being raped by her own sons. Still, our blood boils when Mr. knows nothing claims Nepal to be part of either China or India. Still, we defend our country when somebody asks about it. I am proud of being a citizen of country whose sons and daughters take pride no matter how poor his/her mother is.

That's exactly the problem Nepal faces...There are too many Nepalese that are 'proud' of their motherland....

Indeed. All these 'proud' ones will do well to barter their pound of pride with an ounce of patriotism and fight the Maoists.

Slipknot: You can be proud when you give something back more than what you got. You can be proud when you make the place a little better than what it used to be. That's why I suggest contributing time to the community or donating what you can. Now that can make a difference if we add all up. I have heard enough of that....proud.....similar to netas saying rights of people and blah blah blah. Look at the consequences. It sounds more like ego. No offense.

A few years ago, I was an intern in a lab. One of the Chinese post-doc asked me (once he found out I was from Nepal) "are you proud of Mt. Everest being in Nepal?" "Yes" I replied. Then he said, " why are you proud of Mt. Everest being in Nepal. The mountain literally does nothing for you. Shouldn't you be more proud of maybe minerals or other natural resources in your country?"

ugly duck - mt everest does a lot for nepal. it brings in tons of tourists. it helps promote nepal as a tourist destination even to tourists who don't hike. and it helps me explain to less geographically-conscious americans where i am from. it's a symbol of identity - the chinese have the great wall, the americans have mt rushmore, the italians have the leaning tower, the french have the eiffel tower, and we have mount everest.
