Hello all,
I am a F1 student. I am planning to apply for work authorization through economic hardship. What do you think will be if my application is denied? Will I be deported since I will not be able to pay my tution? Any suggestion will be highly appreciated.
Thanks

I wouldn't think so. One of my friends applied and got authorization, but you need to have some strong reasons why you are in need. You could always ask your international advisor for more info. Good Luck

The question isn't clear. Are you asking about the consequences of the denial or the failure to pay tuition?

friend, as said by earlier replier, the question is not clear, but let me tell you everything I know. because you are ready to apply, you might have done your research and my inputs might be redundant, but i am answering just to help you the way i can. what i read in one of universities' brochure was(and i rephrase in my own words): F1 students are here promising to pay the amount they are supposed to pay(except Scholarship wala), if they apply for unemployment benefits or what so ever.. thats an automatic loss of status. I think your case is different. it is legal to apply for hardship.. but i have not seen a single person who has applied it (may be they didnt tell me). But if you apply for hardship, then you got to show some strong reasons over the time (since u applied and thus promised to pay the tuition fee to this date) that significantly reduced your income status. for example...the economic situation of the country( as was in zimbabwe) or loss of primary bread winner or loss of source of income (job of bread winner or cultivable land). And if you cannot pay your tuition fees, thats automatic out of status after the current semester ends. all the best

not available, you're thinking too hard man.
He didn't ask about unemployment benefit. He's asking about economic hardship, a basis with a majority of Nepali/International students have applied for Work Permits. He won't have any problem whatsoever even if his application got rejected. In fact, I had my EAD application based on economic hardship rejected once. I applied for it after a year and got it.

I applied it when I was doing my undergratuate and it was really a while back. My EAD got approved and the only document I sent was the Nepali Rs Vs US dollar chart showing how the US dollar value has gone up Vs Nepali Rs since I first came to US. To my suprise I was not asked for any more documents. If you application is denied than the only thing you'll loose is your application fee. Don't worry, if you have a good case and ducments you can get it.

You can work on campus without an EAD. You can work off campus for upto 20 hours during school and full time in summer. But nobody's gonna care.

"If I You don't pay your tuition fee before the end of semester you will be outta status" whatever dude!!! I pay my 2009 fees in 2010. They cant kick you out of status for not paying tuition fees. Just have a decent backing to apply for EAD, you should get it. If its denied, you just lose like $300..

Correct me if i am wrong....the only thing that i see if your application is denied is...embassy would access to this record information and might create a problem if u happen to get F1 extension......

That's not correct Test_taker. A person's financial conditions are based on circumstances. For eg : A person might incur a loss of 100 grand in a year while he might make a profit of 2 million the next. A person might get laid off and might apply for unemployment benefit sometime while a couple years later, he might be working for a company with 6 figure salaries.
