Guys,

Wanted to go down memory lane. The older guys on sajha must have good memories of when Nepal Television first came to Nepal. I remember that only one of my relatives had a TV at first. And it was such a big deal. At first there was only news and a few hours of television programming.

I was wondering what are the shows you remember?

My memories are of Rama Singh and Durgha nath Sharma telling the news. I still remember the tune when the news started.

The cartoon Barba-papa - this chewing gum looking character with his family...Barba-mama, barba-joe, barba-this and barba-that. Whole family could change shape on command. I think this was one of the first cartoons on NTV. Us kids were highly entertained. Clickety-click Barba click!

On Saturday afternoons, my friends and I would sit down to watch the afternoon show.

Remember Variety Variety -- it was like 'America's got talent.' It was like a circus with people with all kinds of talents.

And I remember foreign shows like--The Professionals (that was my favorite. My cousin and I used to run around with fake guns and pretend that we were the professionals.) Dempsey and Makepiece. The A team. Faulty towers.
Knight Rider...and that show with the super-motorcycle. I forget that name.

And then there were Nepali shows like...damn I don't remember but I remember the character played by Ramesh Budhathoki -- Deepak Thapa. In that character Ramesh Budhathoki used to do this thing with his forefinger that he would rub it under his nose. Wow, that really caught on in Kathmandu during that time. All the kids were doing that. The funny thing was that apparantly whenever any kid saw Budhathoki, they would do that to him and after a while it started to get annoying to him. LOL.

And I remember all the advertisements that used to be made in India. You could tell because they were Indian actors in the commercial but the words would be Nepali. Some of it would sound so odd. Like that Maggi commercial, "Mummy bhok lage chha." (as opposed to 'Mummy, bhok lagyo')

Few others: Dr who, and Bonanza
Nepali show: Nimitta Nayak or Chakravyu ( I remember the dialogue ' Kicchu dadale kichepachhi...Dipak thapa jel ma malai thaha chhhaina or something like this)
How about sunny/honey rouniyar RNAC commercial ?
Pakistani shows used to come on every sunday: Tanhiyann one of my favs.

does anyone remember a nepalese tele-serial with a Japanese guy as a hero who works for development of a remote village and falls in love with a local Nepalese village girl ? I forgot its name.

Saras ko katha, bhok ra bhaittaharu, katha sagar, tehqiqat, meet ba, aafno kamai, dinesh dc as a drug peddler, logne manche, geetanjali and it's nonsense literature, biman chalak, roshan shresthas program, sanjay shrestha Maya meri maya video, 1st 4 hindi movies aarzoo, aakhe, geet, humrahi, dil bushan pathak as a news reader on ntv, Sunday pop, bishwa ghatna, pratibha ko dublee, devi devi, what else you need, abiral bagdacha indrawati, cinelahar,

Can any of you tell about those songs, jun sadhai jaso broadcast hunthiyo nepal television ma. Teo patriotic type wala, which included mountains womens making rice teo ghar mai dhikki lae kutera ko dhan and etc.

Jiwanyatraa serial, bipana thapa's chitkaar, tadha ko basti, rajendra khadgi's mailee. There was one very old serial about drug addiction. saroj khanal also played as far as I remember. narayan tripathi's khai ma, twakka tukka. kawkuti, hijo aaja ko kura, geetanjali, chitralahar, devi, krishi karyakram, aankhi jhyaal, biswaghatana, ayaam, chiranjeevi, 15 gatey, chintan manan, pakistani serial, osin, and one more serial which I miss so much but I forgot it's name but there was one guy who played role of kumle kailo in chetana serial I guess. So he serves in one rich family and his wife dates another guy in village. But he find them red hand one night at his home. Anyways so memorable times. I really miss those 40's and 50's serials from NTV.

The best was bhid dekhi bhid samma, Nisha Sharma and Bhinaju Saroj Khanal.

Does anyone remember Nepali dubbed version of "Fardi" the song starts like "Asal fardi hamro..."?

The song "Paschim koi purba ghar, aangan tara yutai ho..."

Ramesh Budhathoki villian role and forefinger rubbing under the nose was famous that time.

Later Aryan Sigdel or similar looking guy started doing a Tv serial call "Dui thopa Aasu" the lady in that serial who played the role was quit like that time. Forgot her name

There were some Kanitpur shows where James named guy says something like "Idea is bigger than India." There was episode probably the first episode I liked.

Over the image channel, they started broadcasting this Nepali Ghost serial. I faintly remember the song played " Ali kati maya pani Chanu naai thulo paap bhayoo or something" at start/ending of serial.

Few Korean or Japanese dubbed Tele serial like "Kaapor ko rukh" was famous..
