Salokya ji, You, to me, appear as a good human being, as I went along reading most of the preceding discussion, which I must admit was a far cry; especially with you accusing Ashu IF he was from THAT community ( that was low blow), and sometimes contradicting yourself. Your concept of reporting; to sensationalize the issue, is NOT WRONG; but the way you choose to do IS ( to a larger extent). It appeared to me that you were probably trying to give them an impression that you hold the trump card (mentioning about their personal contact info and all), in essence a threatening tone; however subtle.

Regarding journalism; I know as much or as less as any TDH ( Tom, Dick and Harry hai :)), which includes that the rule of the thumb says, the privacy rights are defined differently for Public and Private people. Needless to say, YOU as a journalist/blogger, need to be very careful while threading this avenue. REMEMBER; next time you publish anything about private individuals:
1) Ask; solicit the concerned person/s.
2) Ask yourself and think of the consequences.

Salokya ji, do not feel that one should not USE other websites to promote their own. ABUSING, is another matter altogether. Sajha, I believe will welcome you with open arms (yeah right!:)), or a 'cold hello', so long as you can stand your ground with logic and valid arguments. You would be a very welcoming addition in this community. I can not speak for the purist, I for one, would DEFINATELY enjoy your opinions in other sajha discussions as well. Thus, please leave the child-esque attitude and give us more opportunity to understand the new breed of journalists.

Also, do NOT forget to cite/give credit where it's due ( of course referring to your posting of sajha material in your blog). No I am not being bitchy; it is just a commonly accepted notion and in many cases, legally enforced law. As a budding blogger/journalist, your actions would be critically evaluated by us readers. The more creditable you will be; better it is for us and eventually; YOU.

Apart from that, I would look forward to seeing you participating and providing us more information here in sajha, and of course in your blog. And yeah, forgot to mention; be PATIENT, you are not going to get all the sajha folks participating in your blog overnight. Tapaiko sochai anusar tapaiko lekhma tapaiko blog ma kura huna chadera yaha bhayo bhannu bhayo. Remember, you were the one who posted the topic in SAJHA in the first place. Dhaire garnoos, in years to come, hopefully your thirst for broader participation in YOUR blog shall be quenched. Hai ta.

HAMRO SAMAJ LE NAITIK RA perhaps KANUNI ROOP MA normal NA MANEKA, or abnormal MANEKA ra SAMAJLAI CHAYETI PURAUNA SAKNE KAAM. I might not agree with his way of putting forth his journalism skills online; however methinks, it does not take a rocket scientist that WIFE SWAPPING is hardly सामाजिक.
Be it in NEPAL or in WESTERN WORLD. (( Even though it essentially involves sharing ones spouse with "SAMAJ"; so to speak :)))

Here, Salokya is not saying, they smoke cig, drinks alcohol or for that matter eats beef in foreign land. Wife-swapping is not known, in my knowledge at least, as a normal or even a decent thing to do by the majority of the people. It is just a plain and simple FACT.

However, if they have no problem and does it at their leisure, behind close door; so bet it. As, long as they keep it between themselves and the willing; it is none of my business. To each; their own.

This incident cannot serve as an analogy to the incident that is mentioned here in this thread. When you bring up the incident in Germany, you are bringing up an incident where a person's life is involved. Everyone has a right to life, and that right is being violated even though the person involved agrees to it. If this wasn?t the case, euthanasia wouldn't be a subject to debate over.
Even though every session in psychological counseling is strictly confidential and is protected federally, if the patient mentions events where someone?s life is under threat, the confidentiality code breaks right there. But here in this thread, we are simply talking about adults, who have decided to pleasure themselves privately without harming anyone. No one?s life is being threatened in this kind of event. And I assume that no one is being forced to join such acts, if it was, then that?s a different case.
You also said, ?Act of this kind is utterly harmful to society.? If it was 50 years ago, and you had a couple who loved each other dearly but decided to make love before marriage, you would have probably said the same thing, right? But if that had happened, did it affect your life in anyway?
Everything changes with time, and society is a part of it. If you believe in evolution and that humans are evolving constantly, it should be clear that human?s brain is also evolving. Just look at the changes in human life style, or society in whole. If our brains were to function in the same manner as always, we would not see any change in this world. So if there are changes in humans acts, and if those don?t hurt and hamper others lives, we should accept them freely, if not at least ignore them.

I am NOT a fan of spouse-swapping practice just as I am NOT a fan of, say,
homosexual activities.

BUT:

If other consenting adults choose to engage in such practices in a non-commercial way
without harming others in the privacy of their own, then, I, for one, have NO problem with other people's engaging in such practices. What adults do behind closed doors
or on some obscure Web sites is NOT of my, your, Salokya's or the state's business --
no matter how bizarre/unconventional those sexual practices appear to be to the 'mainstream' people.

Let me start off by saying that: I am quite aware of your type of smooth Nepali language, which tries to sound civil while engaging in uncivil acts. I might GENERALLY say that -- based on my specific experiences -- CORRUPT Nepali politicians, lawyers, civil servants, journalists and even Maoist netas use such smooth, nice-sounding and seemingly civil Nepali bhasa in public, only to screw other people (especially those with a weaker grasp of Nepali bhasa) TIME AND AGAIN.

That is why, having grown to instinctively DISTRUST civil Nepali bhasa whenever/wherever I encounter it, I say that let others on the Net remain impressed with your seemingly civil language, but, frankly, I don't think much of it when it comes to THIS particular matter.

Meantime, it's clear that:

a) You used compromising pictures of private Nepali citizens WITHOUT their permissions.

b) You made chat-logs public without others' permissions.

c) Yet you have the gall to use "privacy rights" argument to justify your actions, as though privacy rights extended ONLY to revealing names and phone numbers.

d) You have breached the confidence of those people for the popularity of your blog, and you have justified such a breach by saying that the very fact they engage in some "a-samajik" kaam, they can be talked about publicly.

e) You have failed to credit Sajha.com on your blog, always coming up with hopeless excuses.

f) And just because I dared to ask you ISSUE-BASED questions, you made unnecessarily PERSONAL remarks about me. [In response, I icily -- and in a pissed-off way -- replied, "Talk to your publishers. They'll tell you who I am."]

Salokya, my point is simple. Go ahead and talk about wife-swapping people to your heart's content. Say that you are interested in sharing interesting news about
bizarre sexual practices on your blog. That's fine.

BUT don't wrap yourself with "privacy rights" and "journalistic code of ethics" to justify your own prurient interests, especially when it's clear that you care about neither.

Your words are nice and civil, but I, for one, am NOT going to be seduced by them.
Words, no matter how clever and soothing, are cheap.
It's the actions that matter.

And your actions do not lead anyone to think of you as a TRUSTWORTHY journalist. And, you well know that, in journalism, TRUST of others is the ONLY currency you can have.

Saloyaka jee, tapailai kehi kura.....journalism has own field and you came up with blog - thats fine. Suchana adhikar ho - so thank you for informing about wife swapping. Because of that blog we came to know that nepali are so open in sex. But the work after the blog is really unhealthy. Like you can copy someones comment with source, no need to copy and cut. The next thing is when you have some comments, dont get too weak and dont go below the standard of journalist ( I mean dont try to be personnal ). Unique things become news and people comment on article, I think this is not a new thing. Journalist job is to report not to react. K gyanendra lai gali gare gyanendra le sabailai jhapad lagaudai hidcha ra? The thing that you have said tht you wont appear in sajha or wont put the link - 'poi ko rish le sauta ko kakh ma mute jasto matrai huncha'. Sajah is a commont platform and anyone can discuss ( i m not admin hai fheri). I guess you will learn more in sajha and you will develop your blog journalism. Euta rishai uthe ko kura - though that was not for me ' nepal ma tikna nasakera bideshiye ko ' that is not a good point'. We are here for more oppurtinites and we are having that and enjoying in the big country though we are from small country. With our big acievement, we never forget to say that we are from nepal eventhough we have hard time to explain that nepal lies between india and china and mt everest lies in nepal.Keep it up your good job and keep on reporting, stop reacting!

As far as I know, he is a Harvard graduate who has been involved in various projects in Nepal, including the active involvement in freeing the Kamaiyas in western Nepal. After his graduation, he chose to return to Nepal, rejecting a job offer in the US and is involved in business consultancy in Nepal.

He has also written an article in sajha writer?s guild about Nepali Unicode, which perhaps proves he may not be a nepali hater. But I understand that just being involved in this thread and having read limited posts of ashu, you may falsely potray his identity. I can?t comment further on him because I don?t know him personally, just got some of the above information while visiting sajha for a while.

I also know that ashu sometimes posts some offensive comments knowingly or unknowingly, he himself knows better. For example, this Nepali language stuff. I guess it is just his way of throwing satire.

Salokya seems to be an amature journalist. Only mistake i can see in him is publishing Jharana picture. I hope he will honor ethics in journalism. He need to be encouraged for good qualities in him.

A volatile topic, with contradicting comments are seductive indeed.

I dont know what right or wrong in this matter is but like Ashu mentioned above, it shouldnt my business if people are legally involved in "activities" without disturbing the peace. However, one can do nothing but put themselves into that position and come to narrow conclusion. People have their own logics about moral values about lot of things in life. Having said that, I would never approve of something like that becuase it totally contradicts with the moral values that I have been taught.But again, those values might differ from people to people and it is a natural tendency that people might think or act differently. Lets not argue in this matter because there is no right and wrong answer.

About code of ethics:

I took ethics class quite recently and we had discussion about crediting sources from a chatroom. Correct me if I am wrong but the rules about creditin chatroom convo's are still very vague.Even if it is mandatory then it just makes no sense to me..The people who use chatrooms for any purpose dont reflect their true identity...and just crediting sources would be just impossible..

Anyway, keep up the discussion until its healthy...

I was not joking.

Based on my Sajha postings and articles, You can conclude that I enjoy reading and writing in Nepali bhasa, though I do find the writing part a bit difficult.

This is a digression here, but MY GENERAL OBSERVATION is that one thing I find
striking is that -- with the exception of the language used by poets and some sahitya-kaars in Nepal -- the type of "naram" and "chillo" Nepali language used by (corrupt) Nepali civil servants, politicians, lawyers and journalists and even Maoist netas tend to be civil and polite in terms of tone but totally insincere and unauthentic in terms of the consequences of their actions.

In other words, these people tend to charm you with your words, while their intents are to harm you in some way.

I can't really prove my assertion here for sure, but, quite honestly, I have encountered enough "naram" speaking and "naram" writing Nepalis in Nepal to sense --"in a blink", to borrow writer Malcolm Gladwell's phrase -- that these people are not worthy of trust, and, more often that, my 'blink reaction', based on their naram language, has turned out to be correct. I can't really explain it.

So, on one hand, these people appear to be nice and "naram". But on the other hand, what they do is not at all nice and "naram". Some of my Nepali friends who are non-Bahuns and non-Chettris tell me that when someone -- in some official capacity -- addresses them in "sudda" and "naram" Nepali bhasa, they get nervous in that they feel that they are being seduced by mitho, mitho language to give bribes or engage in some corrupt/harassing acts.

To have a good first impression, I remain comfortable with the language that comes from the heart -- with all its ebullient, sprawling and unedited emotions. I do tend to think twice when faced with edited,re-arranged and made-to-charm language. Just my sense, and I could be wrong about this.

Glad to hear Salokya is not leaving us. I find his blogging work a noteworthy endeavor in the context of our country - doesn't mean that I agree to his all views though. Wish you all the best in your career.
